If your ultimate goal is to drive the famous Rubicon Trail, you need to prepare yourself and your vehicle. The Rubicon
Trail is not a trip you hatch up over a few beers one night and leave the next day.
The Rubicon should not be the first time you experience driving on rocks.
The Rubicon Trail has a way of finding all the weaknesses in your vehicle and your driving skill.
If you have any maintenance issues the Rubicon Trail will find them.
If you have any dangly things hanging down under your vehicle the Rubicon Trail will tear them off.
You need to improve your driving skill on rocks.
You need to test and assess your vehicles capabilities on the rock. We have plenty of opportunities in southern California
for practice and for more practice. In fact, there are obstacles more challenging then anything the Rubicon has within a few hundred
miles of Los Angeles. However, the Rubicon is difficult because it never relents. You need to be ready to pick your way through
almost 12 miles of rock obstacles and rock gardens one foot at a time with almost no let up.
The objective of the Rubicon Ready Series of Clinic is to get you ready over a period of time so that you can assimilate
the experience and the skills. The more times you engage rocks, the more comfortable you will be.
There is no substitute for practice. Depending on your skill level and experience today, you may want to give yourself
several years of practice on local trails.
You need time to prepare your vehicle, acquire spare parts and learn how to install them.
The local rock trails will give you plenty of feedback on how modifications you made work and what other modifications
you might still need to make to your vehicle.
The objective of the Rubicon Preparation Clinic is to give you the information and background you need to plan
and prepare your trip on the Rubicon. We will cover minimum vehicle requirements, What to take (clothing, camping gear, food and food
preparation, spare parts, tools, etc.), Rules and regulations, navigation, and tons of other details you need. We will review
the strategy for you to prepare your skills, your vehicle, and to acquire then necessary provisions. This chart shows you the
recommended sequence of clinics.
You are welcome to enroll in any of the clinic, even if you do not plan to do the Rubicon Trail.
Each student will receive a Rubicon video and trail map along with lots of information sheets and checklists.
You should bring the rig you plan to use on the Rubicon Trail.
It needs to be street legal, insured 4WD with a low range transfer case. If you already know you need to purchase another
vehicle to do the Rubicon, wait until after the clinic to buy it.
In the Prep clinic we will not have time to do any "Wheeling". We will be assessing the vehicles readyness for more training
events and to take on the Rubicon Trail challenge.
