Getting Started Off-Road Driving Day 3 – Putting it All Together – 05/21/23 – LA Area

Class Location: Mojave, California & environs

(Note: The beginning and Day 2 classes are a prerequisite for Getting Started Off-Road Driving – Day 3.) 

The Day 3 Clinic gives novice off-road drivers the opportunity to put it all together from their Day 1 and Day 2 clinics to gain more confidence and trail experience behind the wheel of their 4WD vehicles. Like Day 2, the Day 3 Clinic is intended to be a 4WD clinic for beginners, novices and rookies and NOT an extreme 4WD challenge. The day will begin with a brief refresher of the important safety rules, spotting commands, and best practices when caravanning. We will then be off into the mountains guided by an experienced off-road instructor and trail leader. We will be driving most of the day and there will be less discussion than during the Day 2 class. Â Instead of looking for obstacles to learn techniques we will be running a trail and using what we learned previously to negotiate obstacles we encounter along the way. Don’t worry, there will be lots of spotting and great views!

The class does not address vehicle build-up options and issues. The beginning and Day 2 classes are a prerequisite for Getting Started Off-Road Driving – Day 3.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: To be prepared for safety and fun during this clinic, you must have at least the following (call us if you need help!):

• A street legal, insured, part-time 4WD vehicle with a two-speed low-range transfer case. (This means there’s an additional shift lever or knob that’s labeled 2H, 4H, 4L or a button labeled “Center Differential Lock”.)
• At least one recovery point (factory hook or welded eye) on the front and one on the rear.  (A factory-installed 2″ receiver on the rear is acceptable.)
• Rock sliders are recommended. As a minimum, remove running boards or side steps; they probably won’t survive the day.

All wheel drive vehicles that do not have a 2 speed transfer case are not appropriate for the class. Two examples of vehicles that are not appropriate for the class include Subaru Forester and the Honda Ridgeline.

Everyone has a lot of fun. It is a great way to put into practice prior instruction and build confidence.

The class needs a minimum of 4 vehicles to operate and is limited to 10 vehicles.
